The much talked about and debated matter National Sports University as where it should be constructed seems to be making headways with a central team making a last survey at Koutruk Village in Imphal West.
Though no formal announcement regarding the same has been made officially, the visit by the Central team just three days back along with local officials, has made a significant leap to the belief that Koutruk would be the better choice than Yaithibi Loukon in Thoubal District. The team reportedly inspected sites for construction of helipad.
However the bone of contention is that, the state government had acquired a vast track of land at Yaithibi Loukon, about three hudred acres, in Thoubal District for proposed National Sports University.
A recent visit by Union Sports Minister, Vijay Goel has find Yaithibi Loukon site as low lying areas and shown his interest for alternate site, including Koutruk areas villages, which measure around 503 acres. The Union Minsiter remarked has sparked a furore among the ruling Congress and BJP in print as well local television channel earlier.
It can be mentioned that after the annoucement of propsed National Sports University in Manipur, the villagers of Koutruk, Senjam Chirang and Senjam Khunou had offered land free of cost for the construction 2014. But the state leadership has also inspected another site at Yaithibi Loukon along Indo Myanmar Road to present before the central leadership.
With tangling of interest over the proposed National Sports University and for a definite answer, the public of Thoubal District particulalry Yaithibi Loukon, went all out with bandh in Thoubal District some month back.
It was learnt that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Manipur in the second week of January in connection with the forthcoming General Assembly election and may laid the foundation stone laying ceremony of the NSU at Koutruk.
