BJP MLA Khemchand reiterates Centre’s commitment towards peace

Imphal: BJP MLA Yumnam Khemchand has reiterated the Central Government’s firm commitment to restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur as the unrest in Manipur crosses the two-year mark since the Meitei-Kuki conflict erupted on May 3, 2023.

Khemchand, in a press statement issued on Saturday, said the Centre has been actively pursuing multiple strategies to address the ongoing crisis, including intensified efforts to recover illegal arms and ammunition through coordinated search operations across both the valley and hill districts. “In the past month alone, a substantial quantity of arms and ammunition have been seized from various parts of the state,” he said, adding that recent recoveries from the hill districts marked a significant milestone. “These operations are essential to maintaining law and order and have restored hope among the public.”

The MLA also highlighted the continued engagement by the Ministry of Home Affairs with leaders and representatives of various stakeholders, including civil society organisations. These peace dialogues have played an instrumental role in paving the way toward reconciliation, he said.

He praised Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his “accountable and determined” leadership in handling the situation. “Shah Ji has taken several initiatives as a first step toward resolving the crisis. His responsible approach deserves appreciation, even though it may take time to reach a permanent resolution,” he added.

He expressed hope that the hardships faced by displaced and affected citizens would be acknowledged in future policies and that solutions would be implemented with sensitivity. Khemchand said the efforts of Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, members of the Governor-in-Council, security forces, and officials for their ongoing commitment to stabilising the situation. “Their dedication deserves our collective appreciation,” he added.

The statement comes amid fresh security measures and intensified operations in sensitive areas, as the government continues to navigate a path toward lasting peace and communal harmony.
