Biswajit vows to support displaced families until complete resettlement, shares meal with IDPs

Imphal: BJP MLA Thongam Biswajit Singh has assured to support for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Manipur until they are fully resettled.

The assurance was made during his interaction with reporters at Shree Shree Govindajee Temple on Friday.

Biswajit, who is also the former  inister of Works and Power, joined displaced families at the temple to offer joint prayers for peace and early rehabilitation.

Following the prayer, he shared a community meal with IDPs, reaffirming his commitment to assisting those affected by the ethnic violence that erupted on May 3, 2023.

Since the violence broke out, more than 60,000 people have been displaced across the state. Many families from Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and Moreh have taken shelter in relief camps and pre-fabricated houses established in the Imphal valley.

Biswajit said he has been actively providing monetary and material assistance to displaced families in various camps.

“I will continue to stand by the IDPs until they return to their homes safely and with dignity,” he said.

He recalled that a similar prayer ceremony was held last year with IDPs at the same temple to seek divine intervention for peace and reconciliation in the strife-torn state.

He urged all communities to continue cooperating with government efforts to expedite the restoration of normalcy.

“Nobody wants this violence to continue. We must remain patient and united in our efforts to rebuild a peaceful Manipur,” he said.
