Imphal: Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Army and other security forces have recovered huge cache of arms and ammunitions during extensive search operations in Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur districts conducted from Thursday midnight till Friday night.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of a large cache of arms, ammunition, and other warlike materials concealed in various locations, coordinated operations were launched simultaneously at multiple sites in the interior and suspected areas of the four districts by joint teams comprising of Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Army and CAPFs, said a Manipur Police press release.
These operations resulted in the recovery of the arms, ammunition, explosives, and other warlike stores.
The recovered weapons, totaling 203, were Insas Rifle – 21, AK Series – 11, SLR – 26, Sniper – 2, Carbine – 3, Pt 303 – 17, 51 MM Mor – 2, MA Assault Rifle – 2, M 79 Gren. Launcher – 3, Rilfe with Scope. – 1, Single shot Breech Loaded – 18, Single Barrel Bolt Action – 11, Pistol – 6, Point 22 Rifle – 1, Lathode – 2, Single Bore – 25, Pistol (country-made) – 3, Muzzle loaded Rifle – 4, Single Bore – 6, Pompi – 38 and Lathode-1.
Ammunition and explosives recovered in the operations were 5.56 mm – 29, 7.62 mm – 80, IEDs – 30, Grenade – 10, Pompi Shells – 9 and Lathode Grenade -2
“These intelligence-based coordinated operations in the hill districts represent a significant achievement for the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles/ Army and Central Security Forces in their ongoing efforts to restore normalcy, maintain public order, and ensure the safety and security of citizens and their property,” said the police statement.
The Manipur Police reiterated its commitment to fostering a peaceful and secure Manipur. The department urged the public to cooperate with the Police and security forces, and to promptly report any suspicious activity or information related to illegal arms to the nearest police station or the Central Control Room.
“Senior police officials remain in close coordination with all security stakeholders to ensure that such operations continue in a sustained and focused manner, aimed at restoring normalcy, maintaining public order, and safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens,” said the statement.
On February 27, security forces had recovered a total of 307 weapons out of which 246 were deposited by Arambai Tengol, a Meitei group. Later, on June 14, a total of 328 weapons and 10,600 ammunition were also recovered. Both the recoveries were made in Manipur’s valley area.
