Army, AR treats flood affected people in Manipur through medical camps

Imphal: Joint teams of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles (AR) conducted a medical camp at relief centres in Porompat, located in Imphal East, on Saturday. Medical assistance was provided to both internally displaced persons and flood-affected residents of Porompat and nearby areas.

‘The Indian Army and Assam Rifles have treated over 2,000 flood-affected people in Manipur and are planning to organise more medical camps to reach additional victims.’

Since May 31, Manipur has been facing severe flash floods, which submerged over 3,000 houses and displaced nearly 20,000 people. Rescue operations, evacuations, and medical camps have been carried out in several areas, especially in the worst-hit parts of Imphal East district, said a statement released by the Indian Army.

“Within just a week, more than 2,000 people received treatment and free medicines. Many patients were found suffering from serious infections, and Army Medical Corps doctors paid special attention to their conditions,” it said. “The Army and Assam Rifles continue to provide all possible support to the flood victims, with regular drills being conducted to ensure timely medical care. The most common illnesses observed at the camps include diarrhea, fever, thyroid issues, skin infections, and mosquito-borne diseases,” it added.
