Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has urged the Commissioner (Home), Manipur to reveal the name and designation of the person who gave the order to remove “Manipur” from the signage of Manipur State Transport (MST) bus at Gwaltabi in Imphal East on May 20.
Spokesperson and Vice-Chairman (legal) of Manipur PCC, Dr. Rabi Khan (advocate) has written to commissioner on Wednesday requesting to furnish the information on the Gwaltabi incident.
He requested the commissioner to provide the name and designation of the person who gave the order to stop the MST bus ferrying a team of journalists to cover the state level Shirui Lily Festival, Ukhrul and ordered to remove the word from its signage by the personnel of 4 Bn Mahar Regiment. He also asked to reveal the name and designation of the Commandant, 4 Bn. Mahar Regiment, posted at Gwaltabi on that day and also the name and designation of the State and Central Public Information Officers in respect of the 4 Bn. Mahar Regiment. “If the information is not available in your office, kindly forward to the concerned public authority as per section 6(3) of the RTI Act, 2005,” he said in the application.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued by the Government of Manipur, signed by the Chief Secretary clarified that there had been no instructions whatsoever or even a remote thought of covering the name of the State, as has been alleged. This has been amply clarified by the state government as well as by the responsible political leadership. What transpired on the ground would be revealed after a thorough inquiry order. It further said the state administration has taken the reported untoward incident with utmost seriousness and the incident is deeply regretted.
“The Hon’ble governor has constituted an Inquiry Committee comprising of the commissioner Home and the secretary IT which is to submit its report in a timebound manner”, the statement further added “…once the report is submitted and those responsible for the laspes, if any, are identified, strict action would be taken.”
