Maharaja Sanajaoba launches Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan for Manipur

Imphal: Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba inaugurated the state-level Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan in Manipur at the ICAR Research Complex here on Thursday.

The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan will be carried out as a campaign across different districts of Manipur over a span of 15 days, covering all 9 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in the state, the MP said.

He mentioned that during the campaign, farmers and local experts are encouraged to share their ideas and suggestions with the campaign officials to enhance awareness and effectiveness. To support this initiative, the government has announced the collection of feedback and suggestions from farmers either through direct interaction or via two 24×7 toll-free numbers: 011-25846410 and 011-25840184.

Maharaja Sanajaoba said the increase in global population impacts Manipur. “There has been no increase in agricultural land in the state. Farmers in Manipur are no longer practicing traditional methods of cultivation. Instead, many farmers are now exploring ways to grow more crops without using chemical fertilizers.”

“He stated that around 50 percent of Manipur’s population depends on agriculture and allied sector activities for their livelihood. Therefore, the government has taken initiatives to support farmers. If the agriculture and allied sectors are developed, Manipur will see significant growth in its economic activities,” he added.

The campaign, aimed at promoting agricultural development and farmers’ welfare, was simultaneously launched across all Krishi Vigyan Kendras in the state and under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan Campaign, nine vehicles carrying the message were flagged off by Maharaja Sanajaoba.

Thaithuilung Pamei, commissioner, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Manipur and Dr. Ch. Basudha Devi, head of Regional Centre, ICAR RC for NEH Region Manipur Centre, attended the function.
