Imphal: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has failed to provide a specific timeline for the formation of the new government in Manipur as ‘the decision entirely rests with the party’s central leadership.’
Following a meeting on Friday night at the residence office of senior BJP leader and MLA Th. Biswajit Singh, a key meeting was held at the BJP state headquarters, here, chaired by BJP Manipur president A. Sarda Devi, on Saturday. ‘The meeting primarily focused on expediting the restoration of peace in Manipur and addressing the public’s growing demand for a popular and functioning government.’
The BJP legislators have reiterated their unity and commitment to forming a stable government that prioritizes development and peace in the state. “All BJP legislators are united, and we discussed the formation of the government that should focus on development and be able to restore peace and normalcy in the state,” Sarda Devi told reporters after the meeting.
BJP Manipur vice-president Ch. Chidananda Singh said, “Formation of the government fully depends on the wisdom of the party’s high command. I hope they will consider the matter seriously and act at the right time.” Chidananda said the internal party issues were not discussed and declined to provide a specific timeline for the formation of the new government. However, he expressed optimism that a resolution would be reached soon.
BJP MLA Kh. Ibomcha said, “We are preparing to form the government. A meeting with central leaders has not been decided yet, but it is likely to happen.”
Pressure to set up a new popular government in Manipur mounted up following the Gwaltabi incident on May 20, when central forces’ jawans ordered to remove the word “Manipur” from the signage of a Manipur State Transport bus. Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 13.
