Four arrested over kidnapping for extortion of Delhi, Jaipur men

Imphal: Manipur Police,  on Sunday and Monday arrested four individuals in connection with the kidnapping and extortion of two men belonging to Delhi and Jaipur.

The arrests were made at Himalayan Tiles Naka in Imphal West.

“The victims were deceived into traveling to Manipur under the false promise of receiving training for a networking business,” said Manipur Police Control Room.

Upon arrival in Imphal, they were abducted and held captive by the accused, who posed as armed goons. The perpetrators reportedly issued death threats and demanded ransom from the victims, putting their lives in grave danger, it added.

The four arrested individuals were identified as Laishram Hellary Meetei, 35, a resident of Thampnapokpi Mayai Leikai, who is currently staying at Kachikhul Mamang Leikai in Lamsang; Thangjam Lemba Singh, 27, from Ngairangbam; Huirem Anand Singh, 43, from Naoremthong Takhellambam Leikai; and Nahakpam Naresh Singh, 28, of Langol Type II all from Imphal West district.

During the operation, the police recovered a .32 pistol with one magazine and five live rounds, two gun licenses, a pocket knife, two mobile handsets, and a four-wheeler car from the possession of the accused.

Imphal West superintendent of police, Ksh. Shivakanta, confirmed that both victims were safely rescued.
