Imphal: Sekmai police station personnel, Meira Paibi and Food Safety officials destroyed 100 bags of illicit T-5 (Royal Tobacco), valued at approximately Rs 24.96 lakh, by burning at Tingri Heibunglok under Sekmai Police jurisdiction on Friday.
The seizure was made on April 23 by Meira Paibi members from Maharabi, Sekmai, who intercepted the consignment that included T-5 tobacco and other items such as talab. The seized goods were then handed over to Sekmai police station, which in turn transferred them to the Food Safety department, Imphal West, on April 30.
Following due procedure, Imphal West magistrate issued an order for the disposal of the seized items.
Food Safety officials said a case was registered against the accused trader, identified as Om Vishnu Koijam, son of Ibohal Koijam of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai in Imphal West. A penalty of Rs 1.5 lakh was imposed on him as part of the enforcement action.
