Imphal: Manipur Police has launched verification drive to detect any unauthorized presence of Pakistani or Bangladeshi national in strategic and sensitive areas across the state on Tuesday.

The drive was taken up following instructions from the ADGP (Intelligence), Manipur.

The directive, issued on April 26, highlighted that “in areas such as Lilong, Minuthong Hapta, Khurai Heikru Makhong, Kairang, Mayang Imphal, Kwakta, Borayangbi, Khetrigao, Sora, Andro, Wabagai, and other Pangal/Muslim villages, there may be the presence of Pakistan/Bangladesh nationals staying illegally without valid visas or Inner Line Permits (ILP).”

The order references recent actions by Gujarat Police, who detained several illegal infiltrators, stressing the urgency of conducting similar surveys in Manipur. Local police stations in the concerned districts have been instructed to carry out verification to detect any unauthorized presence of Pakistani or Bangladeshi nationals.

“Necessary legal action must be taken as per law against any illegal immigrants found, and a proper record must be maintained to reflect that verification has been conducted and action taken,” the directive stated.

It was addressed to the ADGP (Law and Order), the IGP (Intelligence), and the IGPs of Zone 1, 2, and 3.

Officials had been directed to initiate immediate action and submit reports in due course.

Former chief minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh,  posted on Facebook, “What I have done in the past was not for my own benefit. The initiatives were taken for the safeguard of the indigenous people with a small population. I want to continue such processes.”
