Imphal: In the ensuing disturbances, which broke out following the murder of one Soibam Sarat Singh, 65, at Jiribam, several houses belonging to both Meitei and Kuki communities were burnt by unknown miscreants in Jiribam district.

Further, two police pickets and Borobekra Forest Beat office were also burnt down by suspected Kuki armed miscreants.

Additional Security Forces ( central and state forces) have been deployed to control the situation in the affected areas and prevent further escalation. Situation is tense but

under control at present, said Manipur Police Control Room on Saturday.

The police is also actively monitoring social media updates which may incite communal feelings amongst the communities and request general public to refrain from

spreading unfounded and unverified information, it added.

Governor Anusuiya Uikey met chief minister N. Biren Singh on Saturday at Manipur Bhawan, New Delhi and took stock of the prevailing situation in Jiribam district and asked him to take all possible steps to control the situation there.

The governor also asked the chief minister for providing necessary items including essential commodities for the flood affected people currently staying in relief camps in Imphal.
