Imphal: Indian National Congress has won the parliamentary elections in both the Outer and Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituencies.

In the Inner constituenty, professor Bimol Akoijam defeated his BJP rival Thounaojam Basanta Kumar by a margin of 109801 votes.

Bimol was an associate professor at JNU, Delhi. Basanta was Manipur Education minister.

Congress candidate Alfred Kanngam S Arthur defeated his nearest NPF rival Kachui Timothy Zimik by 85418 votes.

Alfred Kanngam Arthur was elected as MLA from 44 (ST) Ukhrul Assembly Constituency in the 11th Assembly Elections as an Indian National Congress candidate for the term 2017 to 2022.

BJP did not contest in the Outer Constituency. It supported the NPF candidate.

Total voter for Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency was 9, 91,574 and that of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency was 5, 53,078. A total of 7, 94,790 voters turned out in the Inner Constituenty and a total of 3, 80,688 voters turned out in the Outer Constituency.

Bimol got 374017 votes to win. Arthur got 85418 votes.
