Assam Rifles foils smuggling at Indo-Myanmar border, 12 apprehended

Imphal: Assam rifles foiled ‘massive quantity’ of contraband smuggling in Tengnoupal district of Manipur bordering Myanmar on Sunday.

Twelve persons were apprehended in connection with the smuggling.

Assam Rifles checkposts at Bongmol and SL Zougam intercepted five vehicles carrying 109,000 cigarette packets and 4096 liquor bottles hidden beneath grocery items.

After a detailed search of the vehicles, the entire seizure along with 12 individuals and five vehicles were handed over to Machi Police station, the Assam Rifles said on Monday.

The identities of the 12 individuals were not disclosed by the Assam Rifles in its press release.
