Manipur observes Khongjom Day

Imphal: Paying tribute to brave souls who fought against the British, Manipur observed Khongjom Day on Tuesday at the Khongjom War Memorial Complex, Khebaching, Thoubal district.

The observance was attended by governor Anusuiya Uikey and chief minister N. Biren Singh as the chief guest and president respectively.

They led ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries in laying floral wreaths at the Khongjom War Memorial. This was followed by guard of honour, general salute, reverse arms, sounding of the last post, a two minutes silence, slope arms and order arms.

The dignitaries also laid floral wreaths at the Paona Brajabashi statue followed by a gun salute. Tarpon was also offered at the Khongjom River.

Other highlights of the day include Sankirtan by artistes of the Manipur State Kala Akademi, homage to the Sankirtan by the dignitaries and National Anthem by M.R. Band unit.

The observance was also attended by ministers, MLAs, chief secretary, security advisor, DGP, administrative secretaries, other high ranking officials of civil administration, police, central forces, among others.
