Imphal: The Assam Rifles and Manipur Police have apprehended a KYKL cadre with gun from Thoubal district, and also foiled Areca nut smuggling.
Acting on specific intelligence of presence of cadres in general area Wangkhem, Yaripok, in Thoubal District, Manipur, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur police launched a joint operation and apprehended a KYKL cadre with on 9 mm pistol and ammunition, the Assam Rifles said in press release on Wednesday.
The apprehended individual and the recovered weapons have been handed over to the police, it added.
In another press release the Assam Rifles said Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters IGAR (South) foiled a major smuggling attempt on 02 April 2023 when around 34 tonnes of Areca Nuts valued at approximately Rs 78 lakh loaded in a truck was seized and three individuals were apprehended, in general area Lilong of Thoubal district. The apprehended individuals along with the seized items and vehicles were handed over to Forest department, Thoubal district for further legal proceedings.
