Security forces recover weapons and drugs, 5 arrested

Imphal: Security forces have recovered arms and ammunitions, drugs and explosives and other items during search operations and area domination conducted in the fringe and vulnerable areas of  Manipur.

One local made pompi RL, two local made single barrels, one SMC carbine with one magazine, 11 hand grenades, two NMM Mine bombs, three) pompi shells, two para shells,  two magazines, four grenade launchers, two para shell covers and 15 live ammunitions were recovered from Saiton and Santhong Canal, Bishnupur district on Thursday.

Two hand grenades and one small arm with one magazine were also from Moirangpat Kachin near Apple Farm, Kakching district.

One SLR rifle with one empty magazine, one pistol with one empty magazine, one No. 12 bore rifle, one Kenbo bike, 502 rounds of assorted live ammunitions, 200 grams of gunpowder, raw material of IED and three radio sets with three battery were recovered from Yangoubung Village, Tengnoupal district on the same day.

On Wednesday, security forces apprehended five individuals from Y Junction under Chakpikarong PS, Chandel district who were identified as Thangkholal Haokip, 44, Manglenthang Touthang, 30, Letkhogin Touthang, 50, Lamminlun Haokip, 22, and Chungkhohou Khongsai, 38.

Fom their possession, a total of 220 soap cases of suspected No. 4 Heroin, one 9 mm pistol with magazine, 31 live ammunitions, two single barrel 12-Bore guns, one walkie talkie, four Khukri, two mobile phones, two 2-wheeler vehicles and three identity documents. A case has been registered for further investigation, Manipur Police Control Room said.

On the next day, security forces nabbed one cadre identified as Minsy, 31, of Kuki Liberation Army from Bijang, Sangaikot, Churachandpur. From his possession one 7.62 SLR with magazine, one AK-56 rifle, one magazine of Insas 5.56 mm, BPJ cover with 2 BP plates and 216 live ammunitions. “He was involved in extortion along the road leading to Chandel district.” A case has been registered for further investigation, it added.

The state police department appeals to general public to return the ‘looted arms, ammunition and explosives’ to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
