Security forces continue to recover arms in Manipur

Imphal: Security forces have recovered arms, explosives and ammunition from Imphal East and Thoubal districts of Manipur during search operations and area domination conducted in the fringe and vulnerable areas on Monday and Tuesday.

Manipur Police has been appealing to return ‘looted arms, ammunitions and explosives’.

One improvised mortar (6 feet), two bipod / mount, one Base plate, 32 country made launcher live round bomb, five country made launcher ammunition round cap, one explosive weighing 1.5kg (approx.), 1.5 metres of Cordtex wire, two lighters, suspected Heroine (drugs)-20 gms (approx.), two 36 hand grenades, one pompie mortar and 60 fired cases were recovered from Maphou Bazaar and Maphou Kuki village under Thoubal Dam-PS, Imphal East on Monday.

On the same day the security forces recovered one 9 mm US made M-1 carbine machine gun, one tear gas gun, five 9 mm live rounds, one tear gas shell, nine fired tear gas shells and three 36 HE hand grenade from Utonglok village under Sagolmang PS, Imphal East.

On the next day, six bulletproof plate (iron), three bulletproof jackets, two helmets, one radio set, one stund hand grenade, two rounds of 5.56mm amogh carbine, one round of 5.56mm insas ball, one round of AK ball (fired case), two Ak ball (miss fired rounds) were recovered from Oinam Sawombung near Gehu Lampak under Lilong-PS, Thoubal district.

Manipur has been in unrest since May 3 last year after Kuki people started attacking Meitei villages.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was under control, Manipur Police Control Room said on Tuesday.

Movement of 156 and 183 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-02 respectively with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it added.

A total of 129 checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur and police detained 266 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, it added.
