Employees urge not to assign on election duty beyond buffer zone

Imphal: Employees, posted at Tamenglong and Noney district, especially belonging to Meitei community urged the state government and authority concerned to arrange an alternative for discharging their coming election duty instead of deploying them at hill districts ‘as it is not safe due to the prevailing crisis’.

One of the employees, Nongmaithem Hemchandra told reporters at Manipur Press Club, here on Wednesday that there are over 400 Meitei employees in Tamenglong and Noney districts, and for the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha election the employees are supposed to be deployed for election duty at the said districts.

He said due to the prevailing situation in Manipur, employees do not feel safe going to hill districts on election duty. The employees do not mean that they are against doing election duty but urged the authority concerned to arrange an alternative instead of deploying them in the hill districts.

He said how an employee can go at Noney and Tamenglong district on election duty by crossing the buffer zone.

Hemchandra urged the government to assign them at safe zone instead of utilising them at vulnerable area.
