Truckers bodies agree to withdraw agitation

Imphal: Senapati District Trucks Owners Association (SDTOA) and Senapati District Truck Drivers Union (SDTDU) have agreed to withdraw the present steering down agitation with effect from Tuesday.

The Truckers bodies had a meeting with Transport minister Khashim Vashum on Monday and agreed to withdraw the agitation.

The meeting was also attended by MLA 47-Karong J Kamo Sha, deputy commissioner Senapati, Mamoni Doley, ADM Senapati PP Ronald Pao, MCS and additional SP Senapati ML Kaisungbou.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that the ptate police have arrested one active member of the KYKL organisation from Imphal West namely RK Jitensana alias Nanao, 43 years, of Pangei Leiram Mapan near MPTC Ggte, who is suspected to be involved in the assault of truck drivers at Sekmai on the night of February 16, 2024 and that further investigation is under processed.

It was also noted that in order to give due security to the trucks plying on National Highway 2, ROP shall be provided by the government.

It was also deliberated and agreed upon that in relation to the unauthorised collection of taxes on sands, the government shall take strict action against such illegal collection.

It may be mentioned that the present steering down agitation was called by SDTOA and SDTDU due to the physical assault on local truck drivers on the 16th February 2024 at Sekmai at around 10 pm. As a result of this agitation, no loaded trucks were allowed to ply on the National Highway 2 since February 18.
