Imphal: The construction of the much-awaited National Sports University, Manipur at Koutruk has been completed by 38 percent.
This was stated by officiating vice-chancellor of the university Prof. Usha S Nair on Tuesday at the 6th foundation day celebration of the university held at the temporary campus at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex as she was giving a report about the university on the occasion.
Speaking through video conference with secretary sports, ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sujata Chaturvedi assured all cooperation from the side of the ministry for early completion of the construction of the university.
She lauded the National Sports University to its achievements in the short span of time grabbing many medals including four international medals by the students of the university.
The North Eastern states particularly Manipur produced the finest sports stars of the country, the secretary added and mentioned Miraibai Chanu, MC Mary Kom, Sarita, Bhaichung Bhutia. During the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the North Eastern States represent 7 percent of the Indian Contingent the Union Secretary also commended.
Sujata also assured to support the National Sports University in transforming into one of the best universities in the world. S. Lokeshwor Singh, Sports promoter narrated the initial stage of the National Sports University. He urged all concerned authorities to work with sincerity and honesty to fulfill the objective of the establishment of the university.
As part of the observance, eminent sports stars of Manipur – Kunjarani, Ksh. Thoiba, Chinglensana, O. Bembem, L. Sushila were also honoured with mementos.
Abhyankar, a yearly first-ever newsletter of the university was also released.
Students of the university who excelled in various competitions were also honoured by the officiating VC and eminent Sports personalities.
Cultural performance based on Lai Harouba was presented by the Manipur University of Culture. The foundation stone of the university was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018.
