Imphal: Assam Rifles (AR) foils cross border smuggling of contrabands in Kamjong district on Saturday.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the illegal transportation of Areca nuts in general area Pillong Market-Kangpat Khunou road track junction, a search operation was launched, the AR said.
The column intercepted nine trucks illegally carrying Areca nuts without valid documents which were intended for unlawful distribution in the black market, it added.
A total of 1480 bags (approx weight 118.4 tons) of Areca nut, valued at Rs 14.208 crore, was seized and subsequently handed over to Forest Beat officer, Gomnam, Kamjong district, the AR said.
