15 gold biscuits recovered from Chennai resident in Manipur, militants nabbed

Imphal: Amid the Manipur crisis, state police on Friday arrested one gold smuggler with 15 gold biscuits from Imphal West, Manipur.

“Police intercepted one Maruti Van at Patsoi driven by one B. Balasuparmani son of M. Baskar of Chennai, Tamil Nadu and recovered 15 suspected gold biscuits which were concealed inside the vehicle,” police said.

Hence, the person was arrested and further legal proceedings were initiated, it added.

Manipur Police Control Room on Friday said during the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense but under control with sporadic firing and congregation of protestors.

Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Thoubal, Kakching and Imphal East districts, it added.

State police arrested three active members of the proscribed outfit KCP (Noyon). They were Md. Imtiyaz Khan alias Angouba, 21, of Kairang Mayai Leikai, Imphal East, Thokchom Romeshchandra Singh alias Ayangba, 33, of Phubala Awang Leikai and Md. Salim, 30, of Kairang Mamang Leikai, Imphal East.

“These individuals were engaged in extorting money from various business establishments,” the police control room said.

A case has been registered at Heingang Police station for a thorough investigation and the identification of their associates, it added.

A joint security team arrested a proscribed member of the RPF/PLA, who was Aheibam Amorjit Singh, 50, of Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Imphal East during mobile frisking and checking at Mantripukhri Bazar, Imphal East. “The individual was involved in extorting money from three-wheelers plying along NH-2. A case has been registered for further investigation,” the police control room said.
