Weapons recovered, bank looted: Manipur Police

Imphal: Security forces on Thursday recovered weapons from Imphal East and Churachandpur districts of Manipur.

Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal East, Thoubal, Imphal West and Churachandpur districts.

One 9mm pistol with one magazine, three 9 mm ammunition, six hand grenades were recovered from Imphal East.

Six arms (one 9 mm Pistol with magazine, one 9mm CMG with magazine, one .303 rifles with magazine containing two rounds of ammunition, two 12 bore rifles with one round of ammunition, one single barrel), two country made long range mortar along with three rounds, four cartridge 38 mm anti-riot and oneĀ stringer cartridge, six tear smoke shells and one)radio set were recovered from Churachandpur district.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors, Manipur Police Control Room said on Thursday.

Unknown armed miscreants looted the Punjab National Bank, Ukhrul. Security forces have taken up all measures to nab the miscreants, the police control room said.

Movement of 430 and 460 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches inĀ order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it added.

It appeals to general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos, to return the ‘looted arms, ammunition and explosives’ to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
