Firearms recovered in Manipur

Imphal: Security forces continued to recover arms, ammunitions and bombs during their operation in three districts of Manipur on Tuesday.

Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal East, Imphal West and Bishnupur district during which the weapo s were recovered.

One Carbine with magazine, one country made 9mm pistol with magazine, one Improvised Pompi Motor Tube, three 9mm ammunition, four HE Hand grenade, two 51mm HE Motor Shell,

one Smoke Shell, 17 Improvised Pompi Mortar Shell, nine 12 bore rounds with belt and 200 gram of gun powder were recovered.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of congregation of protestors, Manipur Police Control Room said.

Manipur has been unrest since May 3 due to Meitei-Kuki conflict.

Movement of 252 and 268 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police control room said.

A total of 143 Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur and police detained 286 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.

The state police appeals to general public to return the ‘looted arms, ammunition and explosives’ to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
