Bunker destroyed, arms recovered, arms smuggler nabbed, rescued abducted person

Imphal: During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors, Manipur Police Control Room said on Saturday.

Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Bishnupur districts, it added.

During the operations one unauthorised bunker was dismantled at Churachandpur district, one SMG 9mm Carbine with one magazine, one 9mm Pistol with one magazine, one pistol, four 36 HE Hand Grenade along with two detonators, four Chinese Hand Grenade, one Teargas Grenade, one Stun Grenade, one Tube Launcher, one live 84mm illumination shell, four Shotgun shell and two 12 bore cartridge were recovered from Imphal West district. One 7.62mm SLR Rifle, one .303 Rifle with one magazine, two 36 HE Hand Grenade with detonators, two Chinese Walkie talkie sets, three 40 mm Lathode Bomb, one Tube Launcher, two arm rings, five Stun Shell, one tear Smoke shell, one Stringer Hand Grenade and one Grenade key were recovered from Thoubal district.

On this day Manipur Police arrested one arms smuggler from Khabam Lamkhai Bazar and recovered one .32 pistol, one mobile phone and one Camouflage side bag from his possession.

The police control room said Manipur Police successfully rescued one abducted person and arrested the eight kidnappers who are active cadres of KCP(PWG) from Imphal West in connection with a kidnapping and ransom case registered at Imphal Police station. Further, one Ghatak rifle with one magazine containing 10 ammunition, one AK-47 rifle with one magazine containing six ammunition, one .32 pistol with one magazine containing six ammunition, 13 mobile handsets, one sword (samurai) and two cars were also recovered from their possession.

Movement of 147 and 265 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items have been ensured, it said.

Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it added.
