Assam Rifles seizes Areca nuts worth Rs 47 crore in Manipur

Imphal: Assam Rifles has foiled cross border smuggling of contraband in Kamjong district of Manipur on Thursday.

The Assam Rifles, on Friday said, based on credible inputs received regarding dumping of Areca Nuts in general area Namlee market and Wanglee village, a column was launched.

On thorough search of 13 houses in and around Wanglee village, Namlee village amf Namlee market, several illegal dumps of Areca/ Beetel Nuts (Supari) were found for black market sales, it added.

A total of 6,785 bags of Areca nuts valued at Rs 46.90 crore were seized. They were handed over to Forest Beat officer, Nambashi, the Assam Rifles said.
