No state level Kut festival, educational institutions opened

Imphal: There was no state level Kut festival, a post harvest festival of Kuki, in Manipur, which reason has not been revealed by the state government.

Despite being general holiday in the state, schools and colleges were opened specifically in Imphal and other valley districts.

Governor Anusuiya Uikey extended her heartiest greetings to the people of Manipur. She said Kut is considered the biggest festival among the Kuki-Chin-Mizo ethnic groups and it is celebrated as a post-harvest festival for thanksgiving and gratitude to the Almighty for a bountiful harvest. “Let the spirit of Kut embrace one and all to strengthen the social fabric more than ever and bring prosperity to all the communities in the state.”

Manipur has been in chaos since Kuki-Meitei conflict erupted as the Kuki launched attack to Meitei on May 3.

Kut festival falls on November 1. Cultural events are part of the festival with Miss Kut contest as a glamor event.
