Mobile internet ban extended for 3 more days in Manipur, to open in violence unaffected area

Imphal: Manipur government will go for opening of mobile towers on trial basis in those district headquarters which had not been affected by violence due to the current law and order crisis in the state, said an order issued by state Home department on Sunday, while it extended mobile internet ban for three days.

If the trial is found feasible, it shall be replicated to other areas where the law-and-order situation have improved, the government order said.

There are high chances that some anti-social elements might use social media extensively for transmission of images, hate speech and hate video messages inciting the passions of the public which might have serious repercussions for the law-and-order situation in the state; and also elements of imminent danger of loss of life or damage to public and private properties, and wide spread disturbances to public tranquility and communal harmony, as a result of inflammatory material and false rumours, which might be transmitted or circulated to the public through social media and messaging services on mobile services, SMS services and dongle services specially in the context of the recent incidents of violence in some parts of the state, it added.

Curbing of mobile internet data services, in the territorial jurisdiction of the state for another three days with immediate effect from the time this suspension order becomes operational till 7:45 pm of November 8 as preventive measure in public interest, the order said.
