Imphal: Security forces recovered arms, ammunitions and explosives during search operations conducted in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal-East, Thoubal, Kakching and Kangpokpi districts, on Tuesday.
The recovered items were two arms (.303 Country made Rifle – 01, Country made 9mm Pistol with one magazine ), 14 ammunition (two 7.62 mm live ammunitions, three 9mm live ammunitions, nine 12 Gauge ammunitions), 21 blank fire .303 ammunition, six explosives (tnree No. 36 Indian hand grenade, three No. 80 Hand Grenade), 11 mini flares 16 mm (red), one 51 mm Para Illuminating bomb, and one tube launching 1A. They were recovered from Moirangpural, Imphal East district.
One person Chingshubam Ningthem Singh, 56, Don of late Ch.Yaima of Awang Leikhantabi, Imphal West was rescued by security forces from Motbung Bazaar and later handed over to his relatives at Sekmai Police station, Manipur Police Control Room said.
During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was tense but under control, it added.
Movement of 403 vehicles along NH-37 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.
A total of 135 checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur. Police detained 164 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.
The police control room appeals to general public to return ‘the looted arms, ammunition and explosives’ to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
