Imphal: Uripok Sorbon Thingel Apunba Nupi Lup, a women group have demanded justice for 23-years old student Ahanthem Ritish Kumar who was allegedly shot by one Takhellambam Dipu at Uripok Koisnam Leikai in Imphal West on Friday night.
The women body on Monday staged a sit-in rally under a banner “Sit-in-protest against the brutal life attempt to Ahanthem Ritish Kumar” at Sorbon Thingel Road.
Publicity secretary of the women’s group, Tourangbam Mangal Leima told reporters that Ritish was called out from his residence at around 9.30 on Friday by one Thokchom Yaikhomba, 25, son of Th. Chitaranjan of Uripok Koisnam Leikai to attend a last rite ceremony.
Ritish was allegedly shot by one Takhellambam Dipu, 27, son of late T. Bijoy of Uripok Polem Leikai at the residence of Yaikhomba.
Leima said after he was shot, the family members of Yaikhomba let Dipu escape from the spot and Ritish was reportedly left unattended.

Guns are not toys, the state government and authority concerned should give necessary punishment to the culprits involved in the incident, she added.
Yaikhomba and Dipu have been arrested. They were remanded for 10 days police custody after both the accused were produced before Duty Magistrate on Sunday.
It was yet to be confirmed that the gun used in the crime was seized or not.
In an earlier incident, a total of nine persons were arrested including former BJYM president and present vice-president of BJYM Manipur Pradesh for allegedly firing towards a mob injuring five persons.
Amid the present crisis and after thousands of arms and ammunitions were looted from state forces, similar incidents have been reportedly occurring sporadically. State police are also continuing recovering and seizing of arms and ammunitions from various parts of the state, including fringe areas.
