Situation tense, weapons recovered: Police

Imphal: During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of firing, said Manipur Police Control Room on Friday.

Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Kakching, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi, Thoubal and Churachandpur districts.

During the operations two arms (SMG Carbine-1, 9mm Pistol Local made -1), five explosives (Hand Grenade HE 36 -2, Country made bombs-3) and one Pompi were recovered from Chalbung Village, under Sapermeina Police station, Kangpokpi district, the police control room said.

Movement of 160 vehicles along NH-37 and 224 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it added.

A total of 132 checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur and police detained 1962 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.

The police department appeals to general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour free number – 9233522822 of Central Control room, it said.

It also appeals to public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
