Manipur Police team ambushed in Indo-Myanmar border district, arms recovered from 2 districts

Imphal: Unknown miscreants ambushed a team of Manipur Police at NH-102 near Lokchao village of Moreh sub-division under Tengnoupal district on Thursday.

The incidents took place at around 5 pm while a team of Manipur Police led by an additional SP (Operation) who went from Moreh towards Pallel Police station to hand over a Drug Smugglers which was apprehended by Assam Rifles from Tengnoupal Motor Vehicle Check Post by 20 Assam Rifles with 40 thousand WY tablets.

The incidents occurred when the team came back from Pallel towards Moreh between Lokchao and Khudengthabi village.

After a few minutes of cross firing between the security forces and the unknown arm group at Lokchao village, the security forces could control over the area.

Manipur Police Control Room in its daily update said, during the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors.

It said search operations were conducted by joint security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Bishnupur, Kakching, Churachandpur and Thoubal districts.

During the operations, the security forces recovered one MP5, one Carbine Machine Gun, one 38.8 tear gas gun, one Country made improvised mortar and seven munitions were recovered in general area Gothal-Phoulijang at Churachandpur district.

They also recovered one 7.62 mm SLR with five magazines and three Mortar Bombs 51 mm HE at Ushoipokpi Makha Sangomsang, Thoubal district.
