Imphal: Manipur Police on Saturday detained one active member of an underground group from Imphal-West district and recovered large quantity of ammunitions and explosives.
The recovered ammunitions were 68 live rounds of 40 mm Lathode ammunition (UBGL), 573 of 7.62 live round ammunition, 294 of 5.56 live round ammunition and 379 of 7.62 live round Ammunition.
The accused person along with the seized items were handed over to the Imphal West district police and later remanded into police custody, Manipur Police Control Room said on Sunday.
It said during the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was under control. Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Kakching, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts.
Movement of 225 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the state police control room said.
It said a total of 131 checkpoints were installed in different parts of Manipur, and police detained 2050 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.
It appeals to general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour free number – 9233522822 of Central Control room, it said.
It also appeals to public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
