Manipur government takes up measures on mass death of pigs

Imphal: Manipur Veterinary department has sent samples collected from infected pigs from four different districts for detection of types of diseases on Wednesday.

Veterinary director Ng. Ibotombi Singh said the concerned officials have collected samples of infected pigs and sent to Animal Health Centre, North Eastern Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (NERDDL), Khanapara, Guwahati on Wednesday late evening.

He said the samples were collected from Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching and Ukhrul.

Director further said till the report of sample is received, it will be early to say the type of disease which has been infecting the pigs widely.

He appealed the pig farmers to consult to district veterinary offices for preventive measures to stop widespread of the disease.

Manipur Progressive Pig Farmers’ Association has complained that around 90 per cent of pig has been succumbed with an unknown diseases at five different valley districts of Manipur.
