Huge arms, ammunitions, equipment recovered in Imphal East of Manipur

Imphal: Continuing mass search operation in the fringe areas, a combined team of district commando Imphal East, Sagolmang police station and columns of 2/8 Gurkha Regiment recovered huge arms, ammunitions and others from three different locations of Wakan, Shantipur and Khamenlok ridges in Imphal East of Manipur on Thursday.

The combined team led by additional superintendent of police (Ops), Imphal East under the supervision of SP, Imphal East, S. Ibomcha conducted the search operation at around 12 pm to 3 pm at the locations which are under the jurisdiction of Sagolmang police station.

During the operation three AK 47/57 rifles; one 51mm mortar; three .303 rifles; three carbine machine guns; three 9mm pistols; one revolver (local made); one MP5 gun; seven 7.62mm SLR; one lathode launcher; one modified UBGL; two improvised RL; one improvised rifle and eight improvised gun (PUMPI) were seized.

The combined team also recovered 920 live rounds of Insas Rifle; 38 Insas rifle fired case; 28 live rounds of CMG; 44 empty cases of 7.62mm; seventy eight 36-hand grenade; seventy two 12-bore kartoos; 50 HD cart; 40 aiming rings; three 2inch mortar cap; two 3inch mortar HE; six 2inch mortar ILL; one 2inch mortar smoke; twenty four hand grenade (W/P); 28 detonators 7second; 2 detonators 4second; three 2inch mortar bomb; three tube launching Rif grenade; three detonator number 76MK-II; one hundred twenty six 7.62mm BDR; two 7.62mm tracer; thirty five .303 rifle ammo; twenty local made pistol ammo; thirty eight 9mm live rounds; one 7.62mm SLR live round and forty four 2inch mortar bomb HE.

Various equipment including seventy seven tube launching; three AK-47 magazines; one container for RL; four magazine 9mm CMG; one sight mounting bracket; six Insas rifle magazine; two .303 rifle magazine; three helmets; twelve BPJ plates; six BPJ vest; two walkie talkie sets; two black belts; two khaki shirts and five fire crackers were also recovered and seized.

The recovered items have been handed over to Sagolmang police station for further legal formalities.

Police said sporadic firing took place in some fringe areas, however, intense gunfight has been reduced.
