Imphal: Manipur Police sub-inspector Onkhomang Haokip, 35, son of Jampao Haokip of Molcham Village, Kangpokpi AR District Headquarter Churachandpur was martyred in a firing incident by miscreants at Chingphei village under Moirang Police station.
Manipur Police strongly condemns this dastardly attack. His last rites will be performed on Thursday at Churachandpur in a befitting manner, Manipur Police Control Room said on Wednesday.
During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was tense with sporadic incidents of tiring and congregation of protestors, it said.
Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Thoubal. Thoubal. Imphal East. Imphal-West, Kakching Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts in which one arm was recovered from Thoubal district and one bunker was dismantled at Kangpokpi district.
Movement of 365 vehicles along NH-37 and 196 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police control room said.
A total of 128 Nakasi Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur. Police detained 1853 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.
The police department appeals to general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour free number – 9233522822 of Central Control room, it said.
Return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately, the police control room said.
