Imphal: Security forces continued to recover arms, ammunitions and explosives from different parts of Manipur during their operation in the ethnic crisis.
Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Imphal-East, Kangpokpi and Thoubal districts and recovered four arms, one Pumpi Gun, six ammunitions and seven explosives from Imphal-West, Kangpokpi and Thoubal districts, Manipur Police Control Room said on Friday.
During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors, it said.
Intermittent exchange of fire occurred between armed miscreants at fringe areas of Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts. However, security forces deployed in the area responded and subsequently firing has subsided. Situation is tense but under control, the police control room said.
Movement of 220 vehicles along NH-37 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it added.
A total of 128 Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur. Police detained 2082 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.
