Meira Paibi demand Special Assembly session

Imphal: Senjam Chirang Meira Paibi urges Manipur government to convene a Special Assembly session to bring an end to four months long Meitei-Kuki clash in the state.

Since the outbreak of the present turmoil people settling in the peripheral areas had been living in panicky situation, Senjam Chirang Meira Paibi activist Heikham Amrabati said.

She was talking to reporters as a part of the protest decrying against issuance of legal notice by Assam Rifles to social worker Maheshwar Thounaojam for raising voice against the bias act in the present turmoil.

The protest was staged by the local Meira Paibi of Senjam Chirang at its community hall on Saturday.

Amrabati said the long awaited Assembly session conducted recently on August 29 was adjourned without discussing a single agenda on the present turmoil. Meira Paibi of the area are disappointed with the recent sitting of the Assembly.

During Parliamentary session the opposition bench demonstrated protest inside the Parliament, the proceeding continued properly by controlling the demonstration. How the recent session of Manipur Legislative Assembly was not able to control, she questioned?

She appealed the state government and authority concerned to convene a Special session so that the present crisis could be discussed thoroughly to restore normalcy.

People have already witnessed a video in social media that went viral showing that some Assam Rifles jawans blocking state forces from entering a conflict area to conduct operation. Based on the issue social worker Maheshwor Thounaojam narrated the issue in media. However, Assam Rifles issued a legal notice to the social worker for raising the voice of bias act of Assam Rifles in the present crisis, said Amrabati.

She said the legal notice must be withdrawn immediately.

Senjam Chirang is located at the foothills adjacent to Kangpokpi districts and Kuki villages. Since the turmoil was started, many villagers have been injured against the attack from the hills side.

She said most of the villagers of the area are aware that Assam Rifles are providing assistance to the Kuki militants during the crisis. However, the villagers did not have concrete proof and evidence, she added.

She appealed the authority concerned to replace Assam Rifles from Manipur with other central forces.

Similar protests against Assam Rfles were seen in different parts of Manipur valley including Imphal.
