Imphal: Ministry of Home Affairs has considered to extend time to complete biometric collection of the illegal migrants in Manipur and fixed to complete it by March next year.
The Foreigners Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs has written to the Manipur chief secretary on the extension of deadline for capturing of biographic and biometrie details of illegal migrants in Manipur.
The Government of India on May 29 instructed the state government to quickly prepare the plan and initiate the biometric collection of the illegal migrants and complete the exercise by the end of September, 2023.
It has been informed that the exercise is still going on and may require some more time to complete. The matter has been considered in the ministry. It has been decided to extend the time period till March 31, 2024, the director of Foreigners Division, Surender Kumar stated in the letter.
The Government of Manipur was instructed to take appropriate necessary action to complete the exercise within the revised time period.
