Around 50 injured including one journalist in Manipur

Imphal: At least 50 agitators including one camera person of a news agency were injured in security security forces action against the mob who were trying to push back barricade installed at Phougakchao Ikhai, Bishnupur district adjoining to Churachandpur district on Wednesday.

The people’s agitation was led by Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (Cocomi).

Thousands of people from different directions thronged towards Phougakchao Ikhai trying to push back the barricade installed at Phougakchao Ikhai area.

The huge mob gathered at Kwakta area and started heading towards Phougakchao Ikhai where central security forces installed barricade demarketing buffer zone.

Some representatives of the coordinating body along with state and central forces enter beyond the brigade towards Torbung Bangla.

The mob that were blocked at Phougakchao Ikhai irated and tried to break the brigade. The combined security forces fired several rounds of tear gas shell, mock bombs including blank live rounds, which injured around 50 demonstrators.

Amid the imposed curfew thousands of supporters of the movement from Imphal also headed towards Phougakchao Ikhai.

Most of the injured were rushed to Bishnupur district hospital and some are referred at Raj Medicity and other hospitals.

State police intensified frisking and checking in the Imphal city and detained curfew violators in various areas of Imphal.

Police brigades were seen blocking the road at Keishampat bridge, Moirangkhom crossing, Wahengbam Leikai under over bridge and partial blocking at Bir Tikendrajit road along Tiddim Road.

Due to curfew no employees were seen at government offices, market places, shops were shut down. Some schools and colleges were seen open, but few students turned up.
