17 bunkers dismantled, arms recovered, relief camp inmate rescued in 24 hours Manipur

Imphal: During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors.

Manipur Police Control Room said this on Thursday.

Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal-West, Imphal-East, Kangpokpi and Thoubal districts in which 17 bunkers were dismantled in Imphal East district and six arms, 19 ammunition and three local-made Pompi guns were recovered from Kangpokpi district, it said.

Security forces rescued one individual (Meitei) from IT road Ema Keithel, Kangpokpi district and handed over to Manipur Police. The rescued person was handed over to the relief camp at Khuman Lampak, it added.

Movement of 488 vehicles along NH-37 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police control room said.

A total of 129 Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur. Police detained 977 persons in connection with violations in different districts and arrested one person and seized 25 (twenty-five) soap cases suspected to contain brown sugar weighing 309 grams.

The police control room appeals to general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour free number – 9233522822 of Central Control room, it said.

It also appeals to public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
