27 Kg Opium seized in Manipur’s Churachandpur, arms recovered

Imphal: Security forces have seized 27 kg of suspected opium and apprehended two drug smugglers from Kangvai junction, Churachandpur district on Friday, said Manipur Police Control Room on Saturday.

The drug traffickers were identified as one Md Abdul Karib, 35 and Md Kabir Ahmed, 32 both from Kwakta ward number V, Bishnupur district which is adjacent village to Kangvai.

The seizures were made at around 11.10 am during frisking and checking at Kangvai junction from a four wheeler vehicle (Baleno) bearing registration number MN01AS 7487.

Later, the seizures along with the apprehended have been handed over to Churachandpur Police station for further necessary actions.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state is normal with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors, the police control room said.

Search operations were conducted in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal-West, Imphal-East, Thoubal. Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts by the State Police and Central Security forces and recovered 12 arms, six ammunitions and eight explosives.

A total or 121 checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 1580 persons in connection with violations in dilkrent districts of the state.
