24 hr public curfew over failure to convene Assembly session in Manipur

Imphal: There will be a 24 hours public curfew in Manipur beginning on Friday midnight over failure to issue notification for convening emergency Assembly session by Thursday.

Coordinating Committee of 24 Assembly Constituencies and MACKMAL, Union of Social Upliftment and CFC, Thongju had announced to impose the public curfew if the state government fails to issue the notification.

Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey on July 28 assured Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint co-ordinating Committee for Peace to convene special session of Manipur Legislative Assembly in a week.

Coordinating Committee of 24 Assembly Constituencies in a release a meeting for clubs and organisations of districts and Assembly constituencies was held at Seva Club, Thongju on July 27.

The meeting resolved to demand the state government to convene emergency Assembly session by August 2 and adopt resolution to protect Manipur’s integrity, oppose separate administration demand.

The resolution in the Assembly should be forwarded for discussion in the ongoing Parliament session.

Essential services and religious activities will be exempted from the purview of the curfew, the committee said.

If there is no positive response, sit-in protest will be staged in front of the MLAs’ residences till the notification is issued, it added.
