1,240 bottles cough syrup seized from smugglers in Manipur

Imphal: Huge consignment of cough syrup containing Codeine Phosphate were seized from four drug smugglers including three Assamese along NH-2 in Manipur on Wednesday.

Due communal clash in Manipur transporters opt to ply their service vehicles to National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam) instead of NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur).

The smugglers were apprehended. They were identified as Yumkhaibam Abdul Noor, 23, of Mayang Imphal Bengoon, Imphal West; Tutumani Kalita, 24, of Darang district, Mangaldui, Assam; Bidyut Sutradhar, 27, of Fasal, Goalpara, Assam and Bikas Sutradhar, 18 of Fasal, Goalpara, Assam.

They were detained by a team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), Manipur under War on Drugs on Tuesday from Haji Ali Barbar Fast Food, Mantripukhri near St Mother Teresa Home, Imphal.

The NAB team seized 1,240 bottles of Relex-CT containing Codeine Phosphate from their possession.

The team also recovered one Tata Truck bearing registration number AS01NC 3293, two mobile phones and other documents relating to their identity.

A case has been registered in NAB Police station.
