Crisis displaced family dog kills boy in Imphal city

Imphal: One boy succumbed to injury after a left out dog from a displaced family at New Lambulane, here attacked him while another 11 years old girl was injured in similar dog attack.

Due to the ethnic crisis that erupted in Manipur on May 3, many families have been displaced from Imphal.

The deceased five years old boy was Wangmayum Ashin son of Wangmayum Askar Ali of Hatta Golapati Mayai Leikai and the injured was Ahista Lhulakpam, 11, daughter of Amar Shah of Kshetri Keikhu, Imphal East presently staying at a rented house at Hatta Golapati Awang Leikai, Imphal East.

The incident reportedly took place on June 29 at Hatta Golapati Awang Leikai, Imphal East as both the kids were playing near their residence. The dog attack on the kids while they were playing. Ashim received brutal injury on his head while Ahista at her left fingers. 

After treatment at a nearby hospital Ashim succumbed to his injury on July 17. Ahista is still undergoing treatment at her residence under the advice of doctor.

President of Manipur Pangal Community Manipur (MPCM), Haji Arafat Ali told reporters at its Imphal East office that many families staying at New Lambulane has been displaced due the ongoing crisis. The displaced families left out their domestic dogs including imported breeds during evacuation.

He said the dogs become stray. Most of them come out looking for food. As dogs have been searching for food for over 70 days they started behaving like wild dogs.

Who is going to take responsibility for such attack on people? He questioned.

He appealed the authority concerned to take necessary steps to take care of these animals. The locality of the area will start taking steps to defend people from similar attack.
