Assam Rifles has to clarify on allowing 718 Myanmar nationals to enter India: Manipur government 

Imphal: Manipur Home department has sought detailed report from the Assam Rifles authority to clarify on the facts and compelling circumstances, as to why and how 718 Myanmar Nationals were allowed to enter into India in Chandel district of Manipur without proper travel documents. 

The Home department gave ‘strict’ advice to push back the 718 illegal Myanmar Nationals immediately.

Chief secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi in a statement released on Monday said the Home department received from the Headquarters 28 Sector Assam Rifles that 718 fresh refugees have crossed Indo-Myanmar border and entered in the general area of New Lajang of Chandel district as on July 23 due to the ongoing clashes at Khampat (opposite Border Pillar 58).

The 718 Myanmar Nationals included 209 male, 208 female and 301 children. There were detected at different villages of Chandel on July 22 and 23.

The government has also advised the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, Chandel to oversee repatriation and also keep biometrics and photographs of all such persons.
