5 viral video accused remanded to police custody for 11 days

The state police is continuously making all-out effort to arrest the remaining culprits by conducting raids at many suspected hideouts, the control room said.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state is still tense but under control. Security forces conducted search operations in the vulnerable and fringe areas of both valley and hill districts, it added.

The control room said on Sunday, Cyber Crime Police Station, Manipur received a report from a functionary of a political party that a picture of him and his son collaged with a screenshot of the viral video of two women paraded, along with a caption that they were directly involved in the crime was uploaded in various social media platform. A case is taken up for spreading false news with intent to cause injury, damage to his reputation and create serious breach of law and order. Attempt is made to identify and arrest the culprits, it said.

In the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday firing between armed miscreants occurred at Torbung, Terakhongsangbi and adjoining foothill areas and one school and some abandoned houses were burned. One woman from Terakhongsangbi Laithel Maning Leikai was injured. Police and Central Forces controlled the situation and repelled the miscreants, the police control room said.

A total of 127 checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and police detained 492 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state. 

Movement of 735 vehicles on NH-37 and 225 vehicles on NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the control room said.
