Transgender certificate distributed in Manipur

Imphal: For the state’s first, deputy commissioner of Bishnupur Krishna Kumar distributed Transgender Certificates and Identity Cards to two transgender persons in Bishnupur on Friday.

The certificates were handed over in a function held at the office chamber of the deputy commissioner at new Mini Secretariat in the presence of ADM H. Bobby Sharma, AC to DC L.Bobby Singh and district manager (IT) O. Prasanta.

Krishna Kumar said certificates were issued as per the provisions contain under Rule 5 of Transgender Persons ( Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020 read with Section 6 of Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.

To obtain the certificates, transgenders can register through the National portal ‘transgender.dosje.gov.in’ with self-attested affidavit, aadhar and digital passport photo. The portal is under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, he added.

He said the district administration has appointed the AC to deputy commissioner as the Nodal Officer to empower transgenders so that they benefit from central and state schemes.

He informed that the district administration, Bishnupur had earlier provided financial assistance of Rs 1500 hundred each to 35 transgenders during Covid-19 pandemic under the sponsorship of National Institute for Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

He said the district administration had provided foodgrains and other essential commodities to the transgender community during this pandemic. The district administration is also supporting in the implementation of Garima Greh: a shelter home for transgenders in the district, he added.

Later in the afternoon, the DC/DEO also chaired a meeting to formulate plans for the smooth functioning of the forthcoming Assembly Election in the district. The meeting was attended by SP, SDOs, SDCs and DLOs of the district.
