Imphal: The section 66A of Information Technology (IT) Act which has been dismissed by the Supreme Court has been blatantly misused throughout the country to silence legitimate voices, spokesperson of Indian Youth Congress, Gaurav Jain said on Monday.
Gaurav Jain made the statement at the launch of “Young India Ke Bol”, a national level speech competition campaign for selection of spokesperson for the youth congress at Congress Bhavan, here.
India at present stands at 142 in the total list of 180 countries in the press freedom index, Gaurav said. He claimed that many youths in the country cannot raise their voices as there are several instances where social media accounts of the youths are suspended or they are even threatened by the local police.
And as such, the India Youth Congress has launched the Young India Ke Bol campaign to provide the young voices a platform to raise their concerns and raise issues on the national level platform, he said.
Five youths will be selected from every state in which there should be at least one member each from the schedule tribe, schedule caste and women. The selected youths will participate in the national level speech competition which will be held on November 14 at Delhi where he/ she will get the chance to be national spokesperson, he added.
Working president of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee Sagolshem Johny Meitei said Young India Kebol will be a platform for the youths to express their voices on different issues in the state and the government policies as well.
The programme aims to provide a major platform to Indian youths to raise their voices on issues like inflation, Corona management unemployment and murder of democracy and other day to day issues, he added.
The youths after registering their names for the competition can submit the speech (1. 50 to 2 minutes long) videos through twitter and facebook. The selected videos will be forwarded to India Youth Congress for final selection, he added.
